NYC Gears Up For New Year's Eve With Confetti Test In Times Square

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Multi-colored papers fluttered to the ground in front of the marquee at the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square on Tuesday morning, as part of preparations for New York City's annual New Year's Eve celebrations.

Organizer Tim Tompkins called the event a confetti test, WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported.

"Is it light enough so that is goes up as well as down," Tompkins said.

Monica Sharma brought her children to witness the event, since they won't be able to stay up for the show on Thursday night.

"This is amazing," Sharma said. "We've lived in the city for seven years and I just realized that they do this." 

Giant video boards placed around Times Square will also show how countries all over the world are ringing in the New Year.

"This is the place and the time on New Year's Eve where the world comes together and has something in common rather than something that divides us," Tompkins said.
