Thousands Don Their Holiday Worst For Ugly Sweater Run At Citi Field

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Thousands of people took some time to give back in style this Saturday.

The first annual Ugly Sweater Run was held at Citi Field in Queens, CBS2 reported.

Participants of all ages ran or walked the 3.1-mile course in their holiday worst.

"I am wearing a black elfie selfie sweater that has garland and bells on, so I jingle," said Lillian Morales, of Richmond Hill, Queens.

Calder Cahill, with race organizer Human Movement, told WCBS 880's Ginny Kosola it helps to have a theme when trying to raise money for a good cause.

"If we're just asking anyone to come out here and do a regular old 5K when it's probably 30 degrees out right now, I would say we probably wouldn't get quite the participation that we do," Cahill said.

The event benefits the non-profit group Save the Children.
