Thieves Slam Into Newark, Bloomfield Fast Food Restaurants, Steal ATMs

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Brazen thieves in Newark and Bloomfield, New Jersey took smash-and-grab to the extreme early Tuesday.

The suspects first struck at 4:45 a.m. at the Jersey Fried Chicken on Elizabeth Avenue in Newark. They went on to strike a Checkers on Hartford Street in Newark, and a Dunkin' Donuts on Bloomfield Avenue, authorities told CBS2.

They slammed trucks into each of the three storefronts, before taking off with ATMs full of cash, authorities said.

"As I looked the glass the frame, the counters were everywhere," said Mohammed Essaq Hassan, owner of Jersey Fried Chicken. "Everything was everywhere."

A store owner said two vehicles were involved.

The thefts are also similar to two other incidents that happened in November, authorities said.
