FAA Testing New Flight Path To Teterboro Airport

HACKENSACK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The Federal Aviation Administration will test a new flight path to Teterboro Airport.

The FAA announced Tuesday that the new path would divert planes away from Hackensack and instead send them over Mahwah and then follow the Route 17 corridor to the airport.

The agency said the test would provide noise relief for the Hackensack University Medical Center area, but the hospital said it isn't aware of any noise complaints made to the FAA, the Record newspaper reported.

Robert Belzer of the New Jersey Coalition Against Aircraft Noise said the test will probably produce a "net benefit'' to residents in the area, but someone else will be impacted by the noise.

"You're in a metro area, so whenever you're in a final approach to the airports you're coming in over residential communities -- the current route would do that and the new route would do that," Belzer told Kelly Waldron. "It needs to be carefully analyzed."

The test begins next month and is scheduled to last no more than six months.
