Tenants Of Rent-Stabilized Apartment In Brooklyn Outraged Over Management

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)-- The building at 410 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn has rent-stabilized apartments, but the tenants say G-Way Management takes their rent money every month and does no repairs or renovations.

Tenants believe their health and safety are in jeopardy.

"There's a stairway with no railing on it. Any children playing on it can fall right through there," one tenant told 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria.

"We had a terrible pipe leak from the sixth floor to the first floor and they didn't want to help," another said.

Public Advocate Letitia James said it's difficult and that the landlord is trying to push the tenants out in order to rent the apartments at market value, which would be much higher.

"This is a message to G-Way. You will not get away with this, not now, not ever!" she said.

Assemblyman Walter Mosley said management has viciously harassed the tenants trying to force them out.

"These are hardworking men and women... retirees, elderly, union folks. If they can't live here, where are they gonna live?" he told 1010 WINS.

G-Way Management has denied all requests for meetings to resolve the issues.
