2 Teens Killed, Another Injured When Car Crashes Into Bus On Long Island

MIDDLE ISLAND, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Two teens were killed and a third was hurt Friday afternoon when a car crashed into a bus on Long Island.

Police said a 2015 Hyundai Accent was driving north on County Road 21 near the intersection with Whisky Road in Middle Island around 3:50 p.m. when it ran a red light and collided with a 2012 Thomas Built Bus for Rides Unlimited of Nassau and Suffolk.

The driver of the Hyundai, Giovanni Rivette, 16, of Coram, and one of his passengers, Reynaldo Pena, 19, also of Coram, were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where they were pronounced dead. Another passenger, Tyrique Copeland, 17, suffered minor injuries.

The 49-year-old Brentwood man behind the wheel of the bus was not hurt.

Police said there were 18 adult passengers on board, and some were taken to local hospitals as a precaution.
