17-year-old boy dies after shooting in the Bronx

NEW YORK -- A teenager was killed in a shooting in the Bronx on Thursday.

It happened around 4:15 p.m. on Cauldwell Avenue near East 158th Street in the Melrose section.

Police were sent to Cauldwell Avenue near East 158th Street in the Melrose section around 4:15 p.m. in response to multiple 911 calls reporting a person had been shot.

When officers arrived, they found a 17-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck.

He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

The shooting happened near a playground and a school, leaving some parents concerned.

"It's a little disturbing for me to know that as I'm picking up my child, there's another child that just got shot. Sometimes I see children walking around here by themselves. So then it makes me worry like, wow, what if they're not even part of what's going on?" mother Consuelo Canelo said.

The victim has not yet been identified, and no arrests have been made.

Police tell us they're looking for a male believed to be close in age to the victim.

It's unclear what led to the shooting.

The investigation is ongoing.
