Police: Taxi Driver Shot In Back During Armed Robbery In Roosevelt

ROOSEVELT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island taxi driver was shot in the back during a robbery in Roosevelt late Monday night.

Nassau County Police say the victim was sent to a location on Raymond Avenue to pick up a passenger at around 10:50 p.m. where he was instead attacked by the suspect.

According to police, the suspect entered the back seat of the victim's cab and shot him in the back before demanding money.

The suspect then fled the scene.

The victim was taken to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police describe the suspect as a man in his 20s, around 5'8" tall. He was last seen wearing a red, black and white hooded shirt.

An investigation is ongoing.
