Taxi Bursts Into Flames At Madison Avenue, 48th Street

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A yellow cab burst into flames in the middle of the evening rush in Midtown East late Tuesday afternoon.

The FDNY was called at 5:44 p.m. to the junction of 48th Street and Madison Avenue after the sport-utility vehicle-style cab caught fire.

A fire engine and truck were called to the scene, and the fire was out by 6:23 p.m., the FDNY told CBS2.

Photos at the scene showed the cab in flames as people and traffic navigated the intersection in the rain, and a charred shell of a cab after the blaze was extinguished.
