SUV Slams Into Syosset Barbershop; 3 Injured

SYOSSET, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Three people were injured late Friday afternoon when a sport-utility vehicle smashed into a barbershop in Syosset, Long Island.

The SUV slammed into Prestige Barbers, located in a strip mall at Jackson Avenue and Underhill Boulevard in Syosset, at 4:47 p.m., Nassau County police said.

Workers and customers jumped to get out of the way. Three people suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The storefront suffered visible damage to its windows, and the metal door frame was left bent.

Witnesses said the 17-year-old driver complained about not being able to stop.

"While he was driving he was screaming: 'Why is it not stopping?'" said barbershop owner Rafael Haimov. "That's why I tend to believe him what happened."

The driver's vehicle was towed away. Investigators late Friday had not determined whether the SUV had a mechanical problem.
