SUV Plows Through House In Wantagh, Long Island

WANTAGH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A sport-utility vehicle slammed through a house that had just been remodeled because of Superstorm Sandy in Wantagh, Long Island early Saturday.

As WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported, police said a 41-year-old man who lives in the neighborhood went up the driveway and through the Georgian colonial-style home on Riverside Drive in Wantagh with his Chevrolet Suburban.

Everything from the kitchen to the living room and the pillars outside was destroyed.

Thankfully, the couple who owns the house, along with their 2-year-old son, were upstairs at the time and were not injured.

The homeowner told Hall she first thought there had been an earthquake.

"So then he looked over the balcony and he said, 'There's a car in the living room,' and I said, 'What?'"

Authorities said the driver of the Chevrolet was not seriously injured, and police said he was not drunk or on drugs at the time.

But the home was completely renovated after Sandy, and now it has been wrecked again.

"It's definitely devastating," the homeowner said. "Everything's ruined again."
