Cops Searching For Suspect Wanted In Hoboken Sex Assault
HOBOKEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police in Hoboken are looking for a man who they said sexually assaulted a woman in an apartment building.
It happened around 1:15 a.m. Saturday in a building near Monroe and 1st streets.
Authorities said the victim, a woman in her 30s, was on her way home when she was assaulted in the hallway of the building.
The attack has left many residents stunned.
"It's pretty lit and I've never felt unsafe," said resident Caryn Messer. "It's terrifying, really unsettling."
Police have released a sketch of the suspect.
He is described as a white or Hispanic man with a fair complexion, in his late 30s to early 40s, about 5-foot-9, 180 to 200 pounds with a husky build. Police said he has blonde hair, a blonde goatee and scruffy beard.
The suspect was last seen wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans and a backward cap under the hood.
Some women like Messer, who usually walks several blocks to visit her boyfriend, say they will be changing their routines until the suspect is caught.
"I'll be taking a lot more cabs at night and that's just upsetting to hear because Hoboken feels pretty safe," she said.
"Watch your back, have a buddy when you're out late at night," said resident Alexandra Yoon-Hendricks.
