Suspect Charged In Death Of Man Found In Bronx Stairwell

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man has been charged with murder in the death of a 68-year-old man whose body was found in a stairwell late last month in the Melrose section of the Bronx.

Arnell Jones, 54, was charged Thursday with second-degree murder in the death of Eric Simmons, police said.

Police were called around 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, to the building at 320 E. 156th St., in the Melrose Houses development in the Melrose section of the Bronx.

They found Simmons, 68, unresponsive in a ninth-floor stairwell, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Simmons had suffered severe head trauma, police said.

Police have not provided details of what they believe happened.
