Suspect Caught On Camera Attacking Woman Inside Queens Apartment Building

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- A suspect has been caught on camera in a shocking attack on a woman who was walking into her Queens apartment.

Surveillance footage shows a man hiding in the stairwell of the Sunnyside, Queens building waiting to attack the woman.

As the woman walked out of the elevator and unlocked her door the perpetrator came around the corner and pushed her into the apartment.

Police have not released many details in the case  but said that the suspect knocked the 65-year-old woman down and punched her in the head.

The suspect came in through the front door which is typically locked, so someone may have let him in.

Residents at the 50th Street apartment building said that it has always been a safe place to live and has had a good track record, CBS 2's Emily Smith reported.

"We are locking the fire escape and making sure the door is locked. Being careful now," one neighbor said.

"From my understanding she didn't let him in a day before. He didn't take anything but maybe had a bone to pick with her," next door neighbor Brandon Selcho said.

Wanted signs posted around the residence gave a description of the suspect as a male, between 50 and 60-years-old, with blonde hair.

The victim sustained bruising and swelling to her lip. The suspect fled without taking any material items.
