Suspect Arrested In String Of Thefts From Brooklyn, Queens Businesses

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police have arrested one suspect, and were still looking for another Friday, in a string of thefts from businesses in Queens and Brooklyn.

Kanya Russell, 22, of Brooklyn, was charged with grand and petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, police said.

The charges stemmed from three incidents during November of last year, in which two women walked into the businesses and distracted the store employees before taking cash and leaving, police said.

The robberies happened at the following times and locations:

• Around 9 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Liam and Joseph Beauty Spa at 88-18 Roosevelt Ave. on the cusp of Jackson Heights and Elmhurst in Queens;

• Around 5:15 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Just Laundromat, at 47-18 Broadway in Astoria, Queens;

• Around 5:45 p.m. Nov. 17 at Linda's Nail and Spa, at 278 Broadway in South Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Police have released a surveillance image of the two suspects, and were still looking for one of them on Friday evening.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the NYPD.
