Super Bowl Ticket Prices Spike A Month Before Kickoff

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - There's a month to go before Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium and while tickets are still available, eager fans will have to pay up to be in attendance.

As WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported, the cheapest seats in the house are going for $3,200 or $3,300. That's according to Robert Tuchman, president of sports marketing firm Goviva.

Those prices are about 10 percent higher than usual for the Super Bowl, Haskell reported.

"We know there's a lot of corporations based here, there's going to be a lot of corporate demand," Tuchman told Haskell.

Tuchman added that since they don't have to pay to travel, they'll pay more for tickets.

He said the cold weather predicted for the big game is also a factor in ticket prices.

"The tickets that are in the club level section or luxury suites, which have indoor facilities where people can warm themselves up, those are really going for a lot of money," Tuchman said.

Glenn Lehrman at StubHub thinks the best bet is to be patient.

"If you care about price, I would wait until the absolute last minute," he told Haskell.

As the game nears, ticket holders will get anxious and try to unload the tickets at a lower price, said Lehrman.

He added another factor in the price could be if the Philadelphia Eagles or New England Patriots make it all the way to the Super Bowl.

"As long as the two northeast teams continue to remain in contention, I think prices will remain high," said Lehrman.

The big game kicks off on Feb. 2.
