Super Bowl Boulevard Almost Ready For Wednesday Kickoff

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Workers were putting the finishing touches Tuesday on Super Bowl Boulevard -- including its 60-foot-tall toboggan run.

As WCBS 880's Marla Diamond reported, a lucky few were doing the test runs for the ride.

Steven Bell, of Brooklyn, was one of many snapping pictures.

"I've been out here -- this is my second day," he said. " ... Some of my co-workers think I'm crazy, but I love football."

Sonny Kahn, who is working to set up Super Bowl Boulevard, said it was so cold Tuesday he couldn't even feel his fingers in his gloves. The temperature at midday was in the upper teens -- but with the wind chill, it felt like it was in single digits.

"It's tough, but what can I do?" Kahn said. "This is (my) job."

Super Bowl Boulevard, which opens Wednesday and runs through Saturday, will shut down traffic on Broadway from 34th Street to 47th Street. In addition to the toboggan run, the stretch will include a free virtual NFL theater, free autograph signings with stars, artificial turf games for kids, interactive football, free concerts, tailgating zones for hot new video games, huts for punting, passing and kicking, and tents for parties.

All venues will be open daily from noon to 10 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

"If you're a fan and you just want to get a piece of it, all you have to do is walk up," NFL Executive Vice President Eric Grubman said Monday.
