NYPD: Pair Targeting Sunset Park Businesses In Burglary Spree

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are searching for a couple who they say are wanted for targeting businesses during a three-week burglary spree in Brooklyn.

Investigators have determined the woman acts as a look out while the man works to bust open doors and gates to businesses closed for the night in Sunset Park. Police said the pair has stolen nearly $13,000 in cash as well as other items.

After an unsuccessful attempt at a business on 51st Street on May 30, police said they were able to grab $2,000 in cash and a case of Heineken beer from DCPLZZ Seafood on 59th Street by breaking the security gate on June 3.

A few days later on June 8, police said they tried to break in to Wellcare Adult Day Care and Happy Family Grocery on 7th Avenue, but couldn't get in to either location.

Then on June 11, police said the pair targeted the HotPot restaurant on 53rd Street. Police said they busted the gate and cleaned out the register, netting $8,000 in the process.

The latest incident happened on June 20. Police said they broke the kitchen door of Mr. Q's grill on 8th Avenue and took $2,900 in cash, beer and an iPad.

Each of the break-ins happened between 2:30 a.m. and 5 a.m., according to investigators. Sam Fang owns a beauty shop and grocery store in Sunset Park. He says it's impossible to be on alert all the time, hoping more security will help.

"Definitely makes me scared," he told CBS2's Magdalena Doris. "Right now you can only do more cameras."
