Truck Driver Killed In Fiery Crash On Sunrise Highway

WANTAGH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A section of the Sunrise Highway was closed in both directions for several hours Friday night following a fiery crash.

Nassau County police said a box truck collided with a car on the westbound side of the highway around 8 p.m. The truck then slammed into five unoccupied cars in an Long Island Rail Road commuter parking lot before catching fire.

Police said the driver of the box truck died. There was no word on the condition of the other driver.

Video taken shortly after the accident showed large flames engulfing the truck and several vehicles, CBS2's Valerie Castro reported.

"We did have several of the cars with gas tanks ruptured, and they went on fire, so we had flowing gasoline fires here as well," Wantagh Fire Chief James Bloomfield said.

Fire officials said the exact cause of the fire was under investigation.
