Summer Weather: More Perception Than Reality

(CBSNewYork) -- You might be asking where's summer?  But as WCBS's Jim Smith reports, it may be more perception than reality.

New Jersey State Climatologist Dr. David Robinson said that while it has been a cool summer thus far, it's perfectly average.

"That really stymies people because most feel it was a cool month," he said.

According to Robinson, the last four Julys are among the warmest six in the last century.

"We've kind of gotten used to having some very warm Julys and a return to normal therefore seems kind of cool," he said.

Robinson also joked that some might still be thawing out from last winter's chill.
