But as WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported, safety needs to be a priority.

Listen to Suffolk Executive Warns Of Space Heater Dangers As Temps Remain Frigid

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone warned space heaters can be dangerous.

"Make sure that portable heaters are placed on a flat level surface, and keep all flammable objects, including cloth, paper, and rugs away from it," he said.

Space heaters cause 25,000 house fires every year and 6,000 emergency room visits, Hall reported

So it's important to remember before using a space heater, make sure your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are in good working condition.
