Suffolk County Police Release Photo Of Minivan Involved In Hit-And-Run

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Suffolk County police have released a surveillance image of a dark-colored minivan they said was involved in a hit-and-run last month in Central Islip.

Edgar Abrego, 25, suffered serious head injuries when he was struck while crossing Carleton Avenue at Brightside Avenue around 9:25 p.m. Aug. 17 , police said.

The minivan fled the scene and police believe the driver's side mirror and front windshield may have been damaged.

Police are also hoping to speak with a good Samaritan driving a white sedan who stopped at the scene and left before being interviewed by detectives. The good Samaritan used their car to protect the victim from being struck by another vehicle, police said said.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone who may have witnessed or has information on the crash is urged to call the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
