Students, Volunteers Team Up To Turn Newark Parking Lot Into A Playground

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- The space outside of the Life Academy charter school in Newark's South Ward used to be a parking lot.

In one day, over 200 volunteers turned it into a place to play.

Students helped design the blue and green playground, including second grader Ingali, who requested some of his favorite equipment.

"A slide, monkey bars," he said.

Ingali got his wish and then some, the space includes rock climbing and a second slide.

Looking at the equipment, the President of the Morgan Stanley Foundation told 1010 WINS' Rebecca Granet that she wants a turn.
