NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Baruch College student was arrested Monday after trying to bring weapons into Trump Tower, police said.

Alexander Wang, 19, was stopped when he walked through a metal detector.

Inside his bag, the Secret Service said they found several items including a hunting knife, a Swiss Army knife, handcuffs and fireworks.

Wang has been charged with illegal possession of the fireworks and weapons possession.

Wang is a student at Baruch College, WCBS 880's Alex Silverman reported.

"I think it's all minor stuff," said a man who said he was Wang's father, but declined to provide his name. "I don't think he wanted to hurt anybody… he's not that kind of guy. He's churchgoing."

Wang said he did not mean any harm, and is a survivalist who carries those items everywhere he goes, according to police.
