Strong Winds Make It Feel Colder In Tri-State Area

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A bitter blast of arctic air is sweeping across the Tri-State area and people are doing whatever they can to fight against the biting wind.

The projected high for the day is 31, but wind chills will make it feel like the single digits and teens for the entirety of the day, CBS2's Vanessa Murdock reported.

"We've all been lulled into a sense of summer or spring so I guess it's time to get back to winter," a commuter at the Chappaqua train station said.

"My eyes are tearing," Carolyn Ngbokoli of White Plains said. "It's winter and it's supposed to be cold but I always feel like if it's going to be this cold it should at least snow."

"I'm originally from Miami and I never decided to upgrade my wardrobe... so I layered pants, I layered sweaters, I layered hats," said Casiey Lebron on Rego Park. "I think what we got in December I'm grateful for so I kind of expected it to be a bit colder."

Earlier the entire region had been under a wind advisory, meaning gusts could reach up to 50 miles per hour.

The strong winds come after light snow fell over parts of the area on Tuesday. Some parts saw as much as an inch and a half of snow, but most places that saw snow only received a trace.

Meanwhile, snow is pounding areas near the Great Lakes for the second straight day causing havoc from Indiana to parts of upstate New York.

Forecasters say parts of upstate New York could see up to three feet before the storm is over, CBS2's DeMarco Morgan reported.
