Stray Bullet Wounds Teen Following Argument In Elizabeth

ELIZABETH, NJ(CBSNewYork) -- Police were searching for a gunman after a bullet blasted through a wall and hit a teenager.

"All I know is I seen the kid come out. I think he got shot in the shoulder," Tyke Johnson told CBS 2's Scott Rapoport.

Gunshots broke out on Magnolia Avenue, shortly after 4 p.m. Shell casings littered the streets where police say two groups of people shot at each other with tragic, unintended consequences.

A stray bullet pierced the wall of a home and hit a 14-year-old boy in the arm. He never saw it coming.

Police said that the boy was taken to a nearby hospital with wounds that were not life-threatening.

The gunfight was apparently the result of an argument between two girls that got out of hand, according to witnesses.

"Two young ladies was fighting and all of a sudden one of the young ladies got hit by a gentleman and then the men started fighting and then the shooting erupted," Johnson said.

Witnesses said that one man, who they believe was the shooter, took off on foot.
