Statue Of Liberty Gets New Lighting System

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Lady Liberty is ready to shine brighter than ever before.

A new LED lighting system was placed on the grounds around the Statue of Liberty and will be activated at sunset Tuesday.

It's expected to reduce energy consumption.

"The good lighting practices that have been initiated will result in energy efficiency and enhance the experience of millions of people who view Lady Liberty from New York Harbor in the evening hours,"said John Piltzecker, Superintendent of Statue of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island.

Musco Lighting, which does the lighting for the Washington Monument, Mount Rushmore, the White House and the Flight 93 National Memorial, donated the equipment.
