1 Dead, 2 Injured In Staten Island Stabbing Incident; Suspect Charged

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A dispute turned violent overnight, claiming the life of teenager and leaving two other people injured on Staten Island.

A suspect was arrested and charged late Tuesday in the incident.

The violence all started outside 19 Tompkins Ct. in West Brighton, where a group of three people was apparently throwing rocks at houses and cars, 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck reported.

Three men came out of the residence to confront the group and the altercation continued, ending three blocks away at Markham Lane and Broadway near Cpl. Thompson Park, where the men who had come out of the house were all stabbed around 11 p.m. Monday.

A 22-year-old who lived at the house was slashed in the head and chest. His condition was reported to be stable, police said.

An 18-year-old who was visiting him was stabbed in the chest and died at the hospital, police said. He was identified as Damian Yordan of Staten Island.

A 17-year-old visitor was stabbed 10 times and is listed in critical condition at Richmond University Medical Center, CBS2's Janelle Burrell reported.

Residents said they could hear the dispute from inside their homes.

"You could hear that it was going to be a fight but you just didn't want to put your head out much more because then you get involved, so that's the fear of this neighborhood. Just minding your own business. We stick our heads back inside because we don't want nobody to recognize us," resident David Oquendo said.

"There's always fights out here," said Gerria Toon who lives nearby. "I'm surprised that someone got killed, not to hear that they were fighting because that's normal, but to hear that someone actually stabbed somebody, that's shocking."

Late Tuesday, Anthony Ward, 22, was charged in connection with the incident, police said. Police earlier said they were also looking for another man and a woman.
