Man Charged In Staten Island Triple Shooting, Months After Being Shot By Police In Pa.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A man who was shot by police in Pennsylvania back in March has now been charged with fatally shooting a woman and her adult son on Staten Island in March.

Anthony Morales was charged Thursday with murder and other counts in connection with the March 24 shooting that also wounded a 22-year-old man.

Morales, 49, had been shot by police in Hamburg, Pennsylvania, when police tried to arrest him days after the shooting. Police said at the time that Morales had been reaching for his waistband.

"As they approached they gave him several commands to put his hands up, he refused. At this point he made the sign of the cross and then he pulled out a gun, at which time members of the task force fired," NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said at the time.

A loaded handgun was found on him.

Morales is accused of fatally shooting Idelle Rivera, 47, and Anthony Rivera, 21, at 14 Roxbury St., outside the Mariners Harbor public housing development on Staten Island. A third man was also wounded.

Anthony Rivera was shot in the head and killed on the street where he's lived for 15 years. His friend was shot multiple times in the left leg.

After hearing her son was gunned down, Idelle Rivera ran outside to help before being shot in the head, just feet away from her boy.
