NYPD Cruiser Slams Into Staten Island Flower Shop

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A police cruiser jumped a curb and slammed into a flower shop on Staten Island early Tuesday morning.

A police sergeant was heading down Bay Street around 3:30 a.m. when he lost control of the wheel and landed in Flowers by Ricky in the Stapleton section of the borough, CBS2's Emily Smith reported.

The store was closed at the time of the crash.

"I see a lot of the police here when I come inside a lot of damage," said Rosa Roca, whose family owns the flower shop, which has been open for two years.

It is unclear when the flower shop will reopen.

The Department of Buildings is expected to inspect the scene.

NYPD officials said the sergeant suffers from high blood pressure, which caused him to pass out behind the wheel.

EMTs transported the NYPD sergeant to the hospital for minor injuries.
