Staten Island Man Who Spent 3 Days Unconscious In Car Undergoes Brain Surgery

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Staten Island father was in critical but stable condition Sunday morning after spending three days unconscious in his car.

Philip Caruso, 22, left for work Monday and didn't return home to Staten Island until Thursday, 1010 WINS' Kevin Rincon reported. Caruso spent that time passed out in his car in Manhattan.

No one noticed him until a street-cleaning crew asked Caruso to move his vehicle. That's when he drove home.

When he returned to his family, who was frantically searching for him, in Staten Island, he was dazed and immediately rushed to the hospital. He underwent brain surgery Saturday at Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton.

His mother said Caruso was sucker-punched at a local bar last weekend, and apparently he suffered internal bleeding and a skull fracture as a result.

Police are looking into the claim.
