State Police: Driver Going Wrong Way Killed In Crash On Wantagh State Parkway

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - A 73-year-old man is dead and another person is hurt following a wrong-way crash that closed the Wantagh State Parkway early Thursday.

It happened around 5:15 a.m. on the southbound side, just south of the Southern State Parkway, New York State Police said.

Alexander Simek, 73, of Albrightsville, PA, was behind the wheel of a 2019 Chevrolet going northbound on the wrong side and hit a 2014 Honda being driven by Jay Lasker, 54, of North Bellmore.

Simik was killed at the scene, police said. Lasker was taken to the hospital with lower body injuries and was expected to be OK

The crash is under investigation.
