NJ Editorial Board On Christie: 'It's Time For The Man To Resign'

NEW JERSEY (CBSNewYork) -- Another New Jersey editorial board has sounded off on Governor Chris Christie, urging the politician to resign.

The NJ Star-Ledger editorial board published an opinion piece on NJ.com Thursday morning, asserting that Christie does not prioritize the needs of the state and has consistently ignored major issues while opting to pursue other endeavors, like running for president.

"We face two more years under a governor that is wandering in the wilderness, looking for some escape hatch from New Jersey so that he can join the bigger game. His disinterest in this state's most pressing problems is breathtaking," the editorial states.

The editorial board called Christie's recent endorsement of GOP frontrunner Donald Trump 'the final blow,' saying that the governor 'looked like he had been taken hostage' while standing alongside Trump on Super Tuesday.

"His craven endorsement of Donald Trump is only the final blow, the moment when he lost any last shred of credibility. His fulsome praise of Trump, after his stinging condemnations only a few weeks ago, is impossible to believe," the editorial states.

The board expressed concerns over Christie's shifting political views and the governor continuing to leave the state in order to campaign for Trump -- furthering the notion that the governor was not doing enough to address local issues, like fixing the transit system or New Jersey's fiscal crisis.

"Given that he's neglected his job, that he won't promise to change course even now, and that he has sacrificed every scrap of his credibility in this craven grab at national power, he should at least have the decency to get out of the way," the editorial states.

Six New Jersey newspapers also called on Christie to resign. In a joint op-ed earlier this month, the newspapers – which included Gannett-owned Asbury Park Press, the Cherry Hill Courier-Post and the Morristown Daily Record – called the New Jersey governor an "embarrassment" and "an utter disgrace."

The New Hampshire Union Leader wrote an op-ed about how they were wrong for endorsing Christie.
