Stamford To Undertake Major Traffic Light Synchronization Program

STAMFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- The City of Stamford is set to undergo a huge project to upgrade its traffic synchronization.

As WCBS 880's Fran Schneidau reported, people who live and work in Stamford know all too well that it takes a lot longer to get around the city than it should. Stamford Mayor David Martin said it is due to so many traffic lights being out of sync.

The city is undertaking a huge project to resynchronize its traffic lights, and when it is completed, the mayor said drivers will see a noticeable difference.

"We believe that in some corridors at some times of day, we may get as much as a 20 percent improvement in timing to get from one place to another," Martin said.

Martin estimates the entire project may take a year and a half to complete. Work on traffic light resynchronization is set to begin just after the new year.
