Stamford Teacher Sentenced To Prison For Inappropriate Relationships With Students
STAMFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) - A former Stamford High School teacher accused of having sex with one of her students and supplied marijuana to others was sentenced to prison Wednesday.
Danielle Watkins was sentenced to five years in prison, as well as given a five-year suspended sentence and 15 years of probation, WCBS 880's Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau reported.
On Tuesday, Devin Janosov, the attorney representing the two teenage victims, said Watkins could face up to 20 years in prison after she violated the plea bargain by confronting and threatening the younger teen.
Janosov said Watkins fostered a relationship involving drugs with both of the boys and a sexual relationship with the older boy.
"She went from giving drugs to two students that were minors and having sexual relationship with one under the threat of failing him out of school to gratify herself, to then now she's looking at losing years of her life in jail," Janosov said.
Janosov is planning a civil action against the Stamford School Board, which he said instructed the teacher not to report the crime to police, insisting that it be handled internally.
