Gov. Christie Announces $3.85 Million Grant For Post-Sandy Project In Spring Lake

SPRING LAKE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A Sandy-damaged town in New Jersey has received a federal grant to reduce the risk of flooding there.

As WCBS 880's Levon Putney reported, Gov. Chris Christie took time between presidential campaign stops to head to the shore town of Spring Lake in Monmouth County.

"So important about today is that it's another step," said Christie.

A $3.85 million grant's worth of a step, which will go toward a more than $6.7 million post-Sandy project for homes near the coastal lake, Putney reported.

"With this funding, a new floodgate and outfall culvert from Wreck Pond will be put in place. Water storage will be increased, a berm and a living shoreline will be created," said Christie.

"Reduce the flooding risk for hundreds of residents," said Mayor Jennifer Naughton.

Naughton said the grant completes all the funds needed "for the project that has been a long time in the making."

"We will not rest until each and every one of those persons are helped," said Christie

And the governor said that goes for Sandy victims down the Jersey Shore.
