Spring Creek Towers Complex Loses Power; More Than 1,000 Apartments In The Dark

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The sprawling Spring Creek Towers apartment complex in East New York, Brooklyn lost power Wednesday evening.

More than 1,000 apartments were left in the dark when the entire complex – formerly known as Starrett City – lost power around 8:45 p.m., the FDNY told CBS2.

Fire crews were making elevator rescues for people who got stuck, the FDNY said.

There were no injuries reported, but the Fire Department was checking on elderly residents and those with special needs.

Police were also on the scene.

Power was being restored for some of the buildings by 10 p.m.

The complex generates its own power separately from Con Edison.

Spring Creek Towers residents told CBS2 this was the second outage at the complex this week.
