Times Square Spider-Man Arrested For Allegedly Kicking Woman

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Spider-Man was no superhero on Saturday.

1010 WINS' Roger Stern reports a man dressed as Spidey kicked a woman in Times Square.

The alleged incident happened after Spider-Man posed with children for a picture. When their mother said she needed to get small bills to tip him, police said he kicked her.

That's when the woman's husband punched the costumed man.

1010 WINS reports Spider-Man was identified as 37-year-old Abdelamine El-Khezzan of Queens. The man who punched him was identified as Rodney Merrill of Virginia.

Both men were charged with assault.

Tara from Greenpoint, Brooklyn, told 1010 WINS that these costumed superheroes in Times Square shouldn't be demanding money for pictures.

"I don't think that it should be legal for them to be accepting money or demanding money," Tara said.

Jose, a street vendor, said the Times Square superheroes need to be regulated.

"A license or some type of permit to try to keep checking on them, you know," Jose told 1010 WINS.
