Speed Limit Dropping, Lanes Shifting Near Tappan Zee In Westchester

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Tap the breaks as you approach "The Tap."

The speed limit is dropping to 45 mph on westbound I-287 for a quarter-mile from Exit 9 to the Tappan Zee Bridge, WCBS 880's Sean Adams reported.

Lanes are shifting and losing 6 inches to give crews more room to work on the Westchester landing for the new bridge.

The traffic flow adjustment will remain in place until 2016. The lane shift work will occur overnight for the next few weeks, which could result in slowdowns and closures.

One driver predicted trouble.

"Rush hour time, it's going to be a nightmare," he said.

Another motorist had a sense of humor about it all.

"I'll slow it down to a hundred," the man joked.

"Yeah, you do what they say, and everybody will be alive, I guess," he added.
