SPCA: Decapitated Roosters Found In Garbage Bag In Centereach

CENTEREACH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Three decapitated roosters were found inside a bag on the side of the road in Centereach.

The gruesome discovery was made around 4 p.m. at the corner of Henry Road and Edward Street.

The birds, which had been beheaded, were found inside a white garbage bag, said Chief Roy Gross of the Suffolk County SPCA.

"There were no other signs of them being mutilated other than their heads being cut off," Gross told 1010 WINS.

It is too early in the investigation to rule out a religious or cult ceremony, Gross said.

"We are investigating at this time as a case of possible animal cruelty, we are not ruling out at this time any type of a ritual...we don't know," Gross said. "There were no signs at that location indicating that."

Anyone with information is urged to call the Suffolk County SPCA at 631-382-7722.
