New Jersey School District Votes To Rename Jefferson Elementary

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A New Jersey school district voted to change the name of an elementary school named after one of the Founding Fathers.

The South Orange and Maplewood Board of Education voted unanimously to change the name of Jefferson Elementary School.

The resolution states the school "bears the name of an enslaver committed to upholding the institution of slavery."

The district will work with the school community to come up with a new name by June.
