South Brunswick Police Officers Bring Christmas Presents To Single Mother Following Burglary
SOUTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Santa received a little help this year from several officers with the South Brunswick Police Department after Christmas gifts meant for a young autistic boy were stolen from his home.
South Brunswick police officials said officers responded to a report of a burglary at a Dayton home last Thursday and discovered someone had stolen gifts that the single mother was going to give her 5-year-old son on Christmas.
The distraught mother had mentioned she spent all her money on the original gifts and was unable to replace them.
After hearing the woman's story, the officers felt they had to do something to help, officials said. So they teamed up with their local PBA to buy replacement presents for the little boy.
The officers surprised the mother on Christmas Eve morning, arriving at her home with more than double the amount of presents that were stolen from the home, officials said.
"These are the kind of officers that make up the outstanding department we have," South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka said. "They wanted to make sure this little boy had a Christmas this year and pulled together to make it possible. They represent the best of our department."
Officials said the investigation into the burglary is ongoing.
