Sources To CBS2: Feds Probing N.Y. Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos

ALBANY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The FBI and federal prosecutors have begun investigating New York State Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos (R-Rockville Centre) and his son, sources told CBS2.

Authorities are reportedly focusing on business dealings involving Skelos' son, Adam Skelos, and whether his father exerted any influence to help him.

The investigation into Skelos comes on the heels of the indictment of former New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, who is facing an assortment of corruption charges.

Silver was arrested after prosecutors concluded he exploited his influence to reap $4 million in kickbacks and payoffs over a decade. He has pleaded not guilty and is free on bail. He said he'll be vindicated.

If charges are brought against Skelos, it would send Albany into a tailspin – potentially causing a change in leadership in the Senate as well, CBS2 reported.
