Some Brooklyn Residents Seek Ban On Grilling In Prospect Park
NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- A group of Brooklyn residents has called for a ban on grilling in Prospect Park.
Park Slope resident Daz Ryan launched a change.org petition titled 'Help Make Prospect Park Toxic Free By 2015' The Daily News reported.
Ryan claimed that smoke and fumes from charcoal grills has been seeping into her home.
Grilling is currently only allowed in designated spots, but some people want it moved farther away from residential areas.
"That is an issue for the elderly, for the ill, for the children, for the asthmatics in this area," Carmen Almito told 1010 WINS reporter Roger Stern.
On Sunday, New Yorkers who were out grilling told 1010 WINS' Stern that they would not support a ban.
"If you stopped barbecuing in the park then you would have to stop barbecuing in all of Brooklyn, because smoke from someone's front yard is going to get into their neighbors windows," one man said.
As of Sunday afternoon, the petition had 67 signatures. The petition also included a prompt for residents to reach out to Mayor De Blasio and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams.
