Six Flags Great Adventure Welcomes New Baby Giraffe

JACKSON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) - There's a new addition to the safari at New Jersey's Six Flags Great Adventure theme park.

A female reticulated giraffe, also known as a Somali giraffe, was born at the park on Oct. 11.

The park says Mika stood within an hour of her birth and measured 5-feet, 10-inches tall.

Full female Somali giraffes average about 16 feet in height.

The calf was the first for her mother, Noel.

The park says Mika ventured outside the barn for the first time last Tuesday.

Customers will be able to see Mika at the safari on Saturday and Sunday.
