People of all ages enjoy the first snow of the season in northern New Jersey

First Alert Weather: Sunday 1/7 11:30 a.m. team coverage

MAHWAH, N.J. -- Bergen County had some of the highest snow totals in the Tri-State Area, getting up to six inches from the weekend storm.

Some families took advantage and spent Sunday making the most of the first snowfall of the year.

Whether it was the neighborhood hill, snow tubing or the nearest ski mountain, there was snow better place to spend than outside.

"It's amazing. It's like a white miracle! It's snow!" said Melisa Isteben of Mahwah.

It wasn't only the first snowfall of the year, but the first in recent years.

"It has been a good turnout," said Joe Fox, CEO of Ski Campgaw Mountain.

Fox has a mix of snow made by man and Mother Nature, which made for perfect ski and snowboarding conditions for pros like Anthony Davis.

"Excellent, really good, with the fresh snow, super, yeah," Davis said.

And for first timers, like 5-year-old Victoria Davis.

It was perfect snowman-building weather in northwestern parts of Bergen County, that saw some of the most snowfall throughout the weekend, with more coming down throughout the day.

Most of the region saw four to six inches.

While we did see some close calls, it was all smiles on this Sunday snow day, and whether it's rain, sleet, snow or hail, locals will get their meal and to warm up at the local diner, which stays open through all the elements.

"It fills you from the inside, nice and warm," said Danny D'Auria of Wayne.

With roads clear, it looks like school is still a go Monday. Everyone was just taking full advantage and living in the moment.
