Should Mets Make Run At K-Rod Reunion?

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Stop us if you've heard this one before.

The New York Mets haven't completely shut the door on a reunion with free-agent reliever Francisco Rodriguez, according to Marc Carig of Newsday.

The Mets "wouldn't rule him out" based on his infamous 2010 arrest at Citi Field, Carig reported on Twitter. But Carig also cautioned it's unclear whether K-Rod is actually "in the mix."

Rodriguez talked about the possibility of returning to the Mets last year before eventually signing with Milwaukee.

"To come back and redeem myself would be great, because I've got to be realistic and honest," he said in March. "You would have to be real blind to not see that I fell when I was there. That's not even a question. To be able to get one more shot and get it done would be great."

K-Rod signed a three-year, $37 million contract with the Mets after setting a single-season record with 62 saves in 2008. He was arrested in August 2010 for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend's father at Citi Field. The Mets traded him to Milwaukee during the All-Star break in 2011.

There was some buzz regarding a reunion via trade in 2012, prompting an unnamed Mets veteran to say "there is too much baggage there" to the New York Daily News.

Rodriguez re-signed with the Brewers in April 2013 and was sent to the Baltimore Orioles before July's trading deadline. He went 3-1 with a 2.70 ERA, 10 saves and 54 strikeouts over 46.2 innings last season.

On Monday, the Mets signed right-hander Kyle Farnsworth to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training. Farnsworth, who turns 38 in April, posted a 4.70 ERA in 48 appearances for the Tampa Bay Rays and Pittsburgh Pirates in 2013.
