Man Charged With Robbing Bank In Shirley, Long Island

SHIRLEY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Tuesday arrested a man in the robbery of a bank last week in Shirley, Long Island.

John Barton, 31, of Mastic, arrested around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday after an investigation involving witness statements and video surveillance, according to Suffolk County police. He was charged with third-degree robbery, police said.

At 1:37 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, a suspect walked into the TD Bank at 530 William Floyd Pkwy. in Shirley and took out a note demanding cash and threatening violence, police said.

The teller complied and the man ran off southbound on William Floyd Parkway, police said.

Barton was to be held overnight in the Suffolk County Seventh Precinct, and arraigned on Wednesday in First District Court in Central Islip.
