Several Hurt, Including Child, When Fire Truck Collides With SUV While Responding To Call In Queens
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Several people were hurt, including a child, when a fire truck collided with an SUV while responding to a call in Queens Saturday morning.
Authorities say the engine was heading to a fire on the 10th floor of a 25-story high rise in Flushing when the collision occurred near the intersection of Kissena Boulevard and Booth Memorial Avenue just before 10:15 a.m.
"I heard the fire trucks, I heard their sirens, and then I hear a crash. So I'm like, what happened?" witness Joe Tabernilla told CBS2's Erin Logan.
The FDNY says seven people in total were injured, including a child who was rushed to the hospital in serious condition.
Another person was hospitalized in serious but stable condition, according to fire officials.
The remaining injuries are believed to be minor.
"It didn't sound loud at all. It sounded like a car getting hit, but not hard," another witness said. "And then I see a Mercedes on the side and all the firefighters rushing out to help the Mercedes."
The accident is under investigation.
As for the fire, firefighters said no one was seriously hurt and the fire was put out quickly. They said the response time was not affected, because there were already crews there putting out the fire. The truck involved in the accident was on its way to help out.
