Select Bus Service Added To Busy M86 Route

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- One of the busiest bus routes in the city -- the M86, which runs crosstown from York to West End avenues -- now has Select Bus Service.

Select Bus Service allows commuters to dip their MetroCards into a machine on the sidewalk and enter the bus through any door, speeding up travel times.

As WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported, there's a station for the Nos. 4, 5 and 6 trains on Lexington Avenue, so the bus stop there can be very busy.

"Depending on how long the bus takes, can be anywhere from 10 to 20, 30 people sometimes," one woman said.

That means a time-consuming loading process.

"It takes a really long time for everyone to dip their MetroCard and for people to all get in on the front," another rider said.

The M86 is the second-busiest crosstown bus in Manhattan.
